Time for a little change in the ranks of X-COM... For the past 3 games, we didn't have control over the UFO interceptions, but that is now changed... In Interceptor, the rules are the same... bases, money, inventory, research, and so on... but the tactical missions are now replaced by flight simulator missions.
Personally, I had my doubts about this game, and indeed it did not take off like the other games... however, after almost 6 years now, people still talk a lot about this game, and I started to play it myself (I had only played the demo back in 1998). I prefer the mouse over a joystick (sensitivity is too great, even when adjusted), but I can see the X-COM feeling in that game.
Interceptor is NOT a failure, just different. and putting our pride aside, then this game will be placed next to our other X-COM games on the shelf. More information in the X-COM Chronology.

Do you get airsick? I hope not; because this new title is going to turn your head upside down and upset your stomach... Presenting the latest X-COM game of Microprose: X-COM Interceptor!

The year is 2067, about 17 years after the events in X-COM: Terror From the Deep and a full 17 years prior to the events in X-COM: Apocalypse. After the continued degradation of Earth's environment due to alien wars in X-COM: UFO Defense and Terror From the Deep, the human race resorted to searching for minerals and resources in far reaches of space. Once again, the future of the human race is in the hands of the Extraterrestrial Combat Unit (X-COM) which must fight the aliens on their own turf: deep space.
This new chapter in the X-COM saga will determine if the award - winning series will still be appreciated by its fans. The new engine used for Interceptor is not tactical, but a flight simulator. If you played the demo, you know that it will not be an easy game to finish. All we have to do is prey that the fun will last as long as the game play will last!
