Warning! The following game critic is somewhat negative :(

The last game released to bear the name X-COM... And to my opinion, unfortunately, I believe that Microprose really missed the target. I didn't have the opportunity to play the game until recently, and to my surprise, the game didn't meet my expectations. Here's why:

In 2001, Microprose released X-COM Enforcer. A third person shooter, various weaponry, Sectoids, and Snakemans, all these seemed to have some appeal. But then I played the game for the first time, I found myself thinking if this was an unfinished piece of software compiled by a fan. First of all, the Professor's voice is really unprofessional, and worse, annoying. Another major setback is the lack of storyline. Although I didn't get far in the game so far, I would have welcomed more development in the storyline. And the research tree? It got chopped down I presume... Along your journey, you collect points that you can exchange for upgrades. And as for the alien technology, it's a power up you have to collect throughout the levels so you can "research" it at the end of it.

Personally, the only thing that caught my eye in this game is the aliens's animation. It's not everyday that you could "litteraly" be face to face with a Muton. But overall, I don't even know why this game was released, when other projects like Alliance or Genesis could have used the funding. This is a perfect waste of time, money ressources and licence, especially when it is the last one of the series... Why end the legend on a Flop? Mythos Games knew what their fans wanted, and they tried to give it to us with Freedom Ridge: The Dreamland chronicles (that is now known as UFO: Aftermath, released by Altar Interactive). THe Genesis team also understood what was wanted, and from the screenshots I'vc seen, they were going to deliver the goods. But Enforcer? Let's just say that I would have been less severe on my critic if it would have been a console game, and where the multiplayer would have found a better function.

Like Shaun Sanders from Game Revolution said: "...XCOM: Enforcer fails in too many ways. It's not an XCOM game by any means; at least, not in the way any veteran gamer has come to know XCOM. But what is worse is that it's not even an adequate shooter. You're much too powerful, rendering the action moot. The basic gameplay is rather annoying, the game looks shabby..."

I couldn't have said it better myself. Shame. Really.
